Currently in my artwork, I work in three disciplines -- sculpture, drawing and painting. My drawings and paintings include figurative and non-objective abstraction. My work in these two disciplines features expressive lines and marks, and a variety of organic and biomorphic shapes and forms.

I also work with wood, wire and metal in the creation of abstract sculpture. I enjoy the freedom that working in wood, wire and metal gives me. I take pleasure in the process of transforming these materials into curvilinear, textured and sculptured forms and constructions.

As with my drawings and paintings, in my sculptural work I respond to what I see by seeking the essence of figures and objects.  When I travel I make many small ink sketches and drawings which I use later as the basis for my sculpture and painting projects.  For each sculptural project I work from a compositional sketch or a combination of sketch ideas.  Once I start working, each piece or "construction' takes on a life of its own.

Currently I am working on wall relief pieces which will be constructions of wood and aluminum, with larger and smaller planes stratifying the space.  Flat shapes or forms will be cut from wood and/or aluminum sheets, making approximately three layers of space. I like to create shadows with these shapes and forms. I also play with the shapes and forms so that their position and spacing is interesting, and I focus on the negative space as well as the positive space in the emerging relief piece.

In all three disciplines (sculpture, drawing and painting) the elements of line, shape, form, texture and color are an essential part of artmaking for me which I hope will engage the viewer on an aesthetic and poetic level.
